Safeguard Alarms, a Kansas City Company founded in 1965 quickly became one of the most respected names in the electronic security systems industry. An unyielding commitment to customer service, quality products and fair pricing resulted in spectacular growth over the years. By the mid 1990’s Safeguard Alarms gained national recognition as one of the largest Independent full-service electronic security system dealers in the United States.

The decade of the 1990’s however, became known as the decade of consolidation in the electronic security systems industry. Thousands of companies all across the United States regardless of their size were purchased by larger national companies at an amazing rate. Unfortunately Kansas City lost a true industry leader when Safeguard Alarms was acquired in the Fall of 1996 by a very large company that later became known as Protection One.
 
The thousands of local companies that were acquired by national companies specialized in high quality, prompt and effecient service for their customers. As these large national companies continued unprecedented growth through the decade of the 1990’s a disturbing trend began to develop. All of these large national companies were losing their ability to provide customers with prompt efficient service.
 
This lack of service from the national companies created opportunities across the country for service-oriented companies like Safeguard Alarms. In September of 1999 Safeguard Alarms was re-opened by Bob Scales and the former owner of Safeguard as partners. The response from our old friends, former Safeguard customers and Kansas City has been extraordinary and our company has grown faster than we could have hoped for. We offer our customers a friendly voice on the phone rather than an audix answering system, fair pricing, month-to-month monitoring agreements and, most of all, personalized service. Even though Bob purchased his partner’s interest in the “New Safeguard” several years ago they still meet regularly and he is Bob’s most trusted Mentor and Advisor as the company continues to grow and move forward.

Who is Bob Scales?

Upon Joining the US Navy Bob spent his first 2 years of service studying Special Field Electronics and Missile Defense Radar Systems. Bob was deployed to Viet Nam twice and served the last 2 of his 7 years of service at the US Navy’s Research and Development site in New Mexico.

After leaving the US Navy Bob returned home to help his parents in their business until their retirement, while at the same time working in the Insurance Industry. Bob and his family moved to Lees Summit, MO in 1985 and opened an agency specializing in Life Insurance and Mutual Fund sales. In 1989 Bob left the Insurance Industry and began his career in the electronic security industry with a small company in Independence, MO. In the summer of 1992 Bob Joined the Sales Staff at Safeguard Alarms. After Safeguard was sold in 1996 Bob remained with the new company and became a Regional Sales Manager with Protection One. Bob was responsible for Sales Training and Business Development assistance for more than 130 dealers in 12 States.

When Bob was presented with the opportunity to reopen Safeguard he could not resist it.
